Counselor, Telehealth Video Only

Are you tired of being sad, depressed, or anxious? Do you have an issue relating to others or expressing your feelings? Is your lack of impulse control damaging your relationships with the people you love most? Working with adults and at-risk youth presenting with bi-polar, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, anger management, schizophrenia, and dissociative disorder from a diversity of religions, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds over the past ten years has provided me with a positive and unique approach to helping you gain the skills needed to overcome your issues, while empowering you to become the best you can be.

I offer a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic environment in which to express your feelings, to heal, and to gain a more positive outlook on yourself and others. I would like the opportunity to help you build on your strengths while empowering you to work through the things you are unhappy with in your life.

I completed my master’s degree in both counseling and social work at Western New Mexico University. My bachelor’s is in criminal justice-forensic psychology, which gives me an extra measure of insight and perspective when working with clients who have behavioral and anger management problems.

If you are interested in breaking through and overcoming your issues, while working to become the person you were created to be, I offer weekly sessions that are based on your specific needs.  Don’t spend another day feeling like no one cares.

M.S., LAC
Counselor, Tempe office & Telehealth video

I completed my master’s degree at Grand Canyon University, in Mental Health Counseling with a Christian Emphasis. I was previously employed as a Correctional officer and decided to change professions and have been working as a Case Manager for the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Through my employment as a Correctional Officer and Case Manager, I have realized how much of a need there is for mental health services. This is what has led to my decision in becoming a mental health counselor with Breakthrough Behavioral. The Christian emphasis is due to my noticing that many Christians tend not to seek out help because of the stigma associated with getting mental health services. I am hoping that as a Christian Counselor I can help them get the help they are needing.

I am passionate about helping individuals with disabilities, preteens, teens, couples, and anyone who is needing help on their journey to being healed. I have helped others work through Substance abuse, low self-esteem, negative self-image, suicidal behaviors, Anxiety, Depression, and families who are trying to develop the skills needed to help support their loved ones. I have also helped couples either dating or married in redefining their relationships and coming back together as a unit.

I am hoping that as a mental health counselor I can help any individual no matter their background. Through plenty of support, empathy, understanding, and uplifting them, each client will be able to not just reach their goals but learn more about themselves along the way. That everyone who I work with can develop their self-love while successfully reaching their goals while in counseling.

Taking the first step can be overwhelming. I am here to help make this process less stressful while helping you make progress with your mental health. I have a person centered, non-judgmental, and flexible approach to support you exactly where you are at.

With nine years’ experience working in mental health, I know one size does not fit all and having a counselor that supports you, how you need, can make all the difference. With this, my approach is eclectic in using different methods, depending on what works best for you. I use methods from cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory, and other humanistic and postmodern theories. I use trauma informed and culturally competent approaches to create a safe space for everyone including those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

I love the people I work with and believe in resilience. Most importantly, I believe in the power in connection and the ability to heal. I have an open door for individuals of all ages, couples, and families.

I'm committed to guiding you towards personal growth. I use techniques that unlock newfound awareness of your thoughts and feelings, offering fresh perspectives and empowering you to align your choices with your values and goals.

I can provide a therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR isn't just about healing past traumas; it's about reclaiming your present and future. By utilizing movement to process memories, EMDR helps keep the past where it belongs so you can focus on the present.

Overall, my approach is characterized by warmth, empathy, and a deep commitment to helping you achieve your goals. I believe everyone has the capacity to change, and I am honored to be a part of your journey toward growth, self-discovery, and your next breakthrough!

“We never have to be stuck in the moment of our negative experiences. You never have to be a victim to external circumstances or internal emotions. We all possess the power to control our emotions and thoughts while shaping our destiny in the healthiest manner through action.” Are you stressed out and anxious? Does it feel no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to be happy? Are you struggling with feeling sad all the time? Have you tried to solve the problems in your life on your own and realized you need help from someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have made the right choice by being here.

I work with a culturally diverse group of individuals with various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds including various lifestyles, experiences, and interests; specializing in the treatment of individuals (teenagers and adults) who have challenges with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and addictions.

Common goals for therapy include restoring healthy relationships, diminishing symptoms of depression and anxiety, increasing communication coping skills, healing past trauma or loss, and transforming them to productive patterns of healthier life choices, behaviors, and emotions. My goal is to work in a collaborative manner with you to improve your life.

I understand that life can be tough at times and making your initial therapy appointment can be the hardest step. You deserve it and owe it to yourself to gain back control of your life and live to your fullest potential. Regardless of what brings you to seek therapy services I am here to help in your journey.

Clinical Supervisor
Counselor, Phoenix office & Telehealth Video

It is my belief that counseling is one of the most overlooked and underutilized tools to finding

healing from life and gaining a clearer picture of our true selves. Having personally experienced

loss and tragedy to get here, I have been blessed first-hand through how trained professionals can

help each of us find our ways past such obstacles and into emotional clarity and improved mental

health. Additionally, I have worked for years as a pediatric speech therapist, specializing in

helping children with disabilities and different abilities to master the skills necessary to succeed. I

have served for many years as a Christian based missionary to Kenya, and I continue to

volunteer with faith-based agencies both locally and abroad to serve and love on those in need. I

have learned to see people through the Lord’s eyes and meet them where and how they are. As a

Christian Faith based professional counselor, I want to help people find the tools and truths

necessary to achieve peace. I have worked with clients on the Autism Spectrum, as well as those

struggling with Codependence, Grief, Anxiety, Woman’s issues, Relationship Issues, Adult

Children of Alcoholics/Dysfunctional Families, Sexual Trauma, and/or Christian

Faith/Spirituality. Let's meet to see if I can partner with you to find healing and healthier coping

skills with your current struggles.

Clinical Director
Counselor, Tempe office & Telehealth Video

I believe that counseling is about empowering us to make the positive changes in our lives that we believe we need to live a fulfilling and happy life. Sometimes we have learned dysfunctional thought processes from the experiences life has provided us. Having a trusted professional to help us sift through our beliefs and thoughts in a non judgmental way can provide us with a different perspective, can enables us to make the changes that we already know we need to make, but have been unable to make happen.

I have personal experience with anger management, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Addictions in families, Codependency, and how to make change occur in our lives. I offer a different perspective and a non judgmental approach to empowering people to make positive change occur in their life.

As an older person, with a variety of experiences, I have learned that their are many ways through life and and many learning experiences provided to us. I have found great value in being open to change. Let's talk and see if I can be of service to you

When I first started Breakthrough, it was a goal of mine to provide a safe space for clients to get the help they needed from highly-trained and compassionate counselors. That is still the main priority and always will be! I am proud of our team and the essential work that we’re doing but, in the end, we are here to help you deal with life in a way that you can identify with and prosper from and none of us are perfect. If at any time you feel like you need to speak to Roger, our Clinical Director, about your experience at Breakthrough, please feel free to do so. If, after that, you would like to speak with me then I highly encourage it. Thanks for being a part of our family!

Counselor profile:

We all have challenges. Admittedly some are objectively harder than others but our own challenges are unique to each of us and can seem devastating from our perspective. I would like to help you work through yours. I am not going to give you platitudes. Instead, I want to help you learn to accept, cope, cry if you need to, and then get back up! It’s not easy, but you can do hard things! As a college professor, and my background in medicine, my natural instinct is to make sure you understand both the biological and psychological reasons behind your troubles and then we work together to put YOU back in control of your life.

Although I work with a wide variety of clients, if I had to pick my favorite group it would be couples counseling. It's never boring and I think I'm pretty good at it. Not just because of my training and experience in Gottman and EFT but, if I'm being honest, my insights come mostly from a great marriage of 35 years and the things I've learned along the way.

I understand that people are different so I try to stay competent in a wide variety of treatment modalities. Regardless of what's on your mind, from relationship issues, to job stress, addiction, generalized anxiety, to just about anything else, I am confident we can work together to find that next big breakthrough!
